Service to the Poor and Needy
Poor Box
We regularly help persons seeking assistance, with Safeway or Subway gift cards, and with rent and utility assistance in conjunction with Catholic Charities, according to the amount of money in our Poor Box Fund. To contribute to the fund, write a check to St. Dominic Church with "Poor Box" in the memo section. Place the check in the Sunday Mass collection or drop it off in our church office during office hours. You can also donate to the Poor Box through Faith Direct.
St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry
The O'Boyle Council of the Knights of Columbus has opened a food pantry at our neighboring church, St. Vincent de Paul, in order to provide needy persons and families with food resources. We as a parish contribute by collecting and donating food items on one weekend a month, and then by delivering them to the food pantry afterward. See the bulletins tab for when the next food collection will be.
Christmas Giving Tree
Every Christmas we have a Giving Tree near the Entrance of the Church. Please consider taking a tag, buying a toy for a child, and then returning the gift by the designated date. The toys are distributed at the annual DC Police Christmas Party.
Coats for Kids
Every year around Christmas time, the O'Boyle Council of the Knights of Columbus organizes a Coats for Kids event in which children in need can receive a warm coat for winter. To contribute, please write "Coats for Kids" on an envelope and drop it in the collection basket on Sunday or donate through Faith Direct.
Communion for the Homebound
If you would like to help visit sick and homebound parishioners, or drive the elderly to Mass, call us at 202-554-7863.
Baby Goods Drive
Our parish supports both the Capitol Hill Pregnancy Center and the Joseph P. Kennedy Early Head Start Program through a monthly collection of items needed by new families. Diapers, wipes, and formula are especially needed, but other good quality items will be accepted as well. Check the bulletins tab for how and when you can participate.
Pro-Life Prayer and Activism
The Proverbs 24 Community (P24) is a collaborative effort of several Catholic parishes in Washington, DC that started in response to the opening of a Planned Parenthood facility in Northeast DC. P24 gathers every other month, and community members witness in one of three ways: giving peaceful, prayerful witness in front of the Planned Parenthood (walkers), spending a Holy Hour in Adoration to pray for the pro-life cause (prayers), or preparing a meal for all to share at the conclusion of the witness and the Holy Hour (cookers). Contact [email protected] for more information.

Service to the Parish
Church Cleaning
The "Church Cleaning Group" is concerned with the interior of the church. The members meet once a month (usually the 2nd Saturday of the month from 9:30–11:30am) to dust, vacuum, mop, remove trash, and to do any other tasks necessary to create clean surroundings conducive to worship. All materials required for these tasks are supplied. For more information, contact [email protected].
Garden Angels
The Garden Angels perform humble but vital work for the parish: grounds care. They do lawn and garden maintenance, grounds clean-up, and take care of other tasks which arise. All the necessary tools and gloves are provided. The Garden Angels usually work on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays of the month from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers are always needed and welcomed. For more information, contact [email protected].
Handyman Repairs
If you would like to help out with repair and handyman work in and around the church, such as reupholstering our church kneelers, contact [email protected].
